Sylvie RABUSSIER-ROUET

Mosaic Artist

Born in Valenciennes, France, close to the Belgian border, Sylvie RABUSSIER-ROUET did her schooling at the Lycée Claude Debussy in Saint Germain en Laye near Paris, then studied at the Versailles Art School, Départment of Architecture, before finding her true artistic calling at the Duperré School of Decorative Arts of Paris where she obtained her diploma, top of the class in 1979.

During the following three years she furthered her artistic abd technical training, more specifically in the art of the mosaic, through journeys to India: Kerala and Rajasthan, meeting with Indian artists, then to Turkey for Byzantine art, to Greece: Delos, To Italy: Ravenna, Venice and Spilimbergho where she worked with Italian mosaicists, finally to Morocco meeting artists from the mosaic school of Fez, Marrakech and Temara.

In 1982 while learning and working in Italy at the mosaic school in Spilimbergho she was nominated for the "Fondation de la Vocation" prize by Mr Van der Kemp, Member of the Institut de France, Honorary Inspector General of the Museums of France, Honorary Head Curator of the Versailles and Trianon Museum, Curator of the Monet Gardens in Giverny.

She was an award winner of the "Fondation de la Vocation", now called "
Fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet de la Vocation", of which HRH king Baudouin of Belgium was the patron.

From 1982 through 1984 Sylvie RABUSSIER-ROUET served as consultant for the Publicis and Benson companies researching possible links between digital image-processing and the art of mosaic (pixel = tessera).

During and after that period she won many commissions, creating monumental works for different French Governmental Agencies or Public Communities; the long list of these works is in annex.

Her creativity won her in 1995 the "Jehan des Vignes Rouges" Prize given by the Versailles, Yvelines and Ile de France Region Academy, crowning a successful carreer.

Sylvie RABUSSIER-ROUET now supervise a team of French and Italian mosaic specialists, craftmen and masters; she also works in partnership with a multidisciplinary group of architecs and construction technician, allowing her to propose complete answers for the most complex architectural projects.
